What should i tell my dad?

so i lost my iphone yesterday at the mall..ma dad was so mad at me... and i lied to him that someone stole it from my locker by opening my lock.... so this morning he told me to tell the school this exact statement." are you guys gonna try to find my phone or should i call the police?"...cuz he thinks the school is responsible for that ... and they have to pay....so can you help me becuz i didn't say anything like that to school.........and even if i had lost my phone in school , i still don't think that the school is responsible for taht....
